Served in the Union Army, 24th Massachusetts Infantry, Companies "D" and "G".

Was taken prisoner of war on June 7, 1864 at Bremuda Hundred, VA. Taken to Andersonville Prison in GA. Transferred to Camp Lawton Prison Camp in Millen, GA where he died.
