Mr. Beers was born Feb. 17, 1903, in Gresham. He attended the Vancouver School for the Deaf. He married Sara Orlowski in 1953. He worked as a printer for 40 years for many newspapers, including The New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, and The Oregonian until retiring during the late 1960s. He later returned to work at the San Jose Mercury News until retiring 12 years ago. During the mid-1940s, he made a full-length feature film for the deaf titled "Dog Trouble." He moved back to Gresham in 1990.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Madeline McCann of Portland; sons, Mike of Palo Alto, Calif., and Bill Orlowski of Gilroy, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Private interment will be in Gresham Pioneer Cemetery.
