Ann L. Rhodes, 66, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at her home.
Graveside service: 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, in Greenwood Memorial Park with reception immediately following at Greenwood Courtyard Reception Center.
Memorials: Please remember Ann in your heart and know that she would be very happy if you made a donation to the many wonderful charitable organizations in Fort Worth.
Ann was born Oct. 17, 1941, in Fort Worth. Throughout her life, she cultivated a love for all the arts, but most particularly for the art of live theater. She also became an accomplished collector of first-edition books. As a young woman, Ann attended Texas Christian University, where she was a Kappa Kappa Gamma and later graduated from the School of Ranch Management at Texas Christian University.
She was a loyal TCU alumna who made many "gifts" to the University's theater department to encourage the next generation of theater artists. Through her philanthropy, Ann assisted the late Forrest Newlin (former chair of the theater department) in creating TCU's theater studio space. She also sat on TCU's Chancellor Council and was a Centurion of the Clark Society.
Ann was a founding board member of Circle Theatre, was on the executive board for Casa Manana; and sat on other theater boards including Amphibian Stage Productions, Stage West and the Live Theatre League of Tarrant County.
In August of this year, the League voted to name their Philanthropic Individual Award in her honor. True to her nature, Ann was humble, yet deeply touched by the decision to publicly recognize the generosity she extended to theater from Fort Worth to Broadway.
Ann was a member of the prestigious Player's Club in New York. She "backed" Broadway and off-Broadway plays, including, most recently, "Angels in America." Ann also underwrote and co-produced two plays by Andrew Harris, "Albee's Women" and "Better Half Dead."
In addition to supporting education and theater, Ann was a constant contributor to human and animal welfare causes. She was a member of the Junior League of Fort Worth and a lifetime member of the Humane Society.
She was a tiny lady with a very big heart.
Ann was preceded in death by her mother, Carol Jane Rhodes; and her father, Jon Knox Rhodes.
