Anna was the fourth of six children born to Squire and Caroline (Pool) Dotson. She married William Penn Bellamy on August 25, 1878, and to this union five children were born: Sarah Ellen, Fred Dan, Iva Myrtle, Arthur William, and Raymond Earl. William and Anna homesteaded on land that would eventually be established as the town of Smithfield, Nebraska. (Note that the year of birth may have been 1860, despite the tombstone record. The 1870 census notes Anna as being 9 years old at the time.)
