Leon Herman Sweet, age 85, died Dec. 15, 2006, at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, CA, after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure. Leon was born in Madison, Aug. 28, 1921, to Ben and Fay Sweet. He graduated from West High School in 1939 and attended the University of Wisconsin until he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. As a 1st Lt., he was a member of the 456th Bomb Group stationed in Cerignola, Italy during World War II and flew 28 missions over the Adriatic Sea into Germany. He was a recipient of the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Upon his return to the states, he joined his father in the family business, The Capitol Tog Shop, a men's clothing store located on State Street. Leon married Annette Holterman, in 1948 and spent 58 happy years together. He lived in Madison until moving to Las Vegas, in 1985. In 2005, he moved to El Dorado Hills, CA. He is survived by his wife, Annette; two wonderful sons and their wives, Thomas (Linda) Sweet of Elroy, WI, and Jonathan (Cassandra) Sweet of El Dorado Hills, CA; four loving grandchildren, Hannah Sweet of Elroy, WI and Benjamin, Natalie and Charlotte Sweet of El Dorado Hills,
CA; his sister, Esther (Henry) Suckle of Woodside, CA; two nieces, Helaine Kotler and Sally Kramer of California; and many close cousins. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, David, in 2003; his brother, Harold; and his parents. Graveside services were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens in Las Vegas, NV, on Dec. 21, 2006, with Rabbi Mel Hecht presiding.
