Barbara J. Stirnweiss, 63, of Red Bank, passed away Monday, Sept. 1, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She was born in Summit and lived in the Monmouth County area most of her life. For the past three years, she resided at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shrewsbury, where she was awarded resident of the month. Barbara attended Star of the Sea Academy in Long Branch and Red Bank Catholic High School in Red Bank. She was a devoted and loyal employee at Riverview Medical Center, where she worked as a linen aide for almost 30 years, before her retirement in 2006. She loved going to work everyday, and truly enjoyed the people she worked with. Barbara was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching football and Nascar; but most of all she loved her N.Y. Yankees. She was a member of the Red Hat Club and in her spare time she enjoyed reading and playing bingo. Barbara enjoyed people, and had a deep love for her family. Her kind spirit and loving personality will be truly missed by all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her parents, George H. Stirnweiss, (a N.Y. Yankee from 1943 to 1950) and Jayne Stirnweiss; and her sister, Catherine "Cathy" Fazzone. She is survived by her three brothers, George "Pete" H. Stirnweiss of Atlantic City, Edward P. Stirnweiss of Ocean City, and Gerard Stirnweiss of Red Bank; her sisters, Susan J. Stirnweiss of Atlantic Highlands, and Ellen M. Pittman and her husband Charles of Rumson; 13 nieces and nephews, and 27 great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Letters of condolence can be emailed via the funeral home's website at www.sidun.com.
