EVELYN LOUISE (CHILDS) LONG, was the third child of five children (Esther, Delbert, Evelyn, Wilber and Florence) born to Guy Truman Childs (1888-1963) and May Barbara Steiber(1887-1969). Evelyn was born Dec. 5, 1913 in Fedora,Miner County, SD and died Oct. 26, 1991 at home in Mt. Prospect, Illinois. Cause of death: stroke. She graduated in 1933 from Grand Rapids High School in Minnesota.
On Oct. of 1939 in Davenport, Iowa Evelyn married John Erick Long .She received her LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) associate's degree and worked for awhile in Chicago.
In 1949 Evelyn and her husband, John Long adopted twins, James Henry David and Betty Jo David who were a year old their last name was changed to Long. She and the family vacationed in Menominee Michigan on a farm, where her husband once lived.
Evelyn lived most of her life on North Sawyer St. in Chicago, IL. After her husband's retirement in 1970 they moved to Mt. Prospect, IL. Evelyn. John and family attended a Baptist church regularly. She was bedridden for two years before her death in 1991 due to a stroke. She is preceded in death by her parents, Guy Truman Childs (1899-1963) and May Barbara Steiber 1887-1969), and by her brother, Wilbur Truman Childs (1916-1968).
