FORT ASHBY, WV - Stanley M. Gower, 88, of Fort Ashby, left this world and went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Memorial Hospital. Born on Oct. 6, 1913, in Ridgeley, he was the son of the late Hurley J. and Bessie B. (Baldwin) Gower. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eva P. (Wagoner) Gower, and one sister, Nellie D. Malone. Mr. Gower was retired from the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, where he had been an engineer with 34 years of service. He was a member of the Springfield Assembly of God Church and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Surviving are his daughter, Dolores L. Sampson and husband William M. Sampson Sr., Fort Ashby, with whom he resided; three sons, Stanley H.J. Gower and wife Janet, Springfield; Bruce I. Gower and wife June, Summersville; and Phillip N. Gower and wife Rita, Bunker Hill; one nephew, Jackson
Malone, Fort Ashby; one niece, Patricia A. Ford, Corriganville, Md.; 10 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Fort Ashby, where services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Norman Landis officiating. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be William Cadwalder, Emory Landis, Charles Hott, Brandon Gower, Stanley Wm. Gower, and Gene I. Gower.
