Mr. Hostager, 69, of Zumbrota, died Sunday (Aug. 31, 2008) at his home.
Harlan Marshall Hostager was born Aug. 30, 1939, in Wanamingo. Raised in Nerstrand, he graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1957. He enlisted in the Army and served from 1959 to 1962. In 1966, he began working at IBM as an analyst, and married Patricia Wojtkiewicz on Sept. 2, 1967, in Wykoff.
Mr. Hostager retired from IBM in 1994 and then graduated from Pine Technical College in 1996 as a gunsmith. He enjoyed his times as a gunsmith and was involved in the Zumbrota Rifle and Gun Club, the Department of Natural Resources Loon and Frog Count, and the Izaak Walton League. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and a 25-year member of the Blue Bird Restoration Program. Mr. Hostager enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys, camping and gardening with his wife, and spending time with his grandson.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Allan of Lakeville, Minn., and Erik (Tina) of Zumbrota; and a sister, Mary Liffrig of Kenyon. Other survivors include a grandson, Gavin Hostager; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manton and Marian (Severson) Hostager; and a brother, Conley.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, and an hour before the service Thursday at Lands Lutheran Church.
