CHECOTAH - Joseph Esciar Harp, 81, died Friday in the Muskogee Veterans Administration Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Smith Funeral Chapel with Vernon Gruver of Bixby officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Merle Haggard, Gary Harp, David Harp, Roy Harp, Charles Anderson and Earl Anderson.

Born April 4, 1894 in Harrison, Arkansas. Harp was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War One.

Survivors include a brother, Lucian M. Harp of Modesto, California and sevral nieces and nephews.


Esciar was born in Newton Co., AR the son of William Thomas Harp and Martha Emaline Chaffin. He made his home in Modesto, CA for many years before retiring to Checotah.
