Melissa Catherine Brooks BATTEN Age 36, born in Dalton, Georgia, died suddenly July 29th, 2008. Preceded in death by her father, William Cooper Brooks, and brother, William Glenn Brooks. She is survived by her loving mother and stepfather, Patricia Brooks and William Miller, and loving sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Brad Bloom. A graduate of University of Georgia and Harvard Law School, Melissa was a public defender at the Mecklenburg County Public Defender's Office in North Carolina before becoming a developer in Microsoft's games division. Her fierce intelligence, zealous advocacy for justice, and deep compassion for the disenfranchised will be missed by all. She passed away in Redmond Washington. She was a victim of murder.
