Donald Gross, 83

Donald Gross, a resident of Lastrup, died March 11, 2006, at the Pierz Villa.

Mass of Christian Burial was held March 15 at St. John's Catholic Church in Lastrup with Fr. William Vouk III officiating. Burial was at St. John's Parish Cemetery.

Donald was born on March 31, 1922, in Lastrup to Steve and Anna (Virnig) Gross. He was raised and educated in Lastrup. Don was a pipefitter and welder on ships in Portland, OR, in his earlier years. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Rakotz at St. Augustine Church in St. Cloud on April 11, 1953. He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1940 and 1941 as a truck driver. He then owned and operated Lastrup Implement for 40 years. Don was a former Mayor of Lastrup, was on the City Council and on the Senate at St. John's Parish in Lastrup. Don enjoyed playing cards, watching sports and, most of all, spending time with his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. He was an avid dog lover.

Donald is survived by his wife Elizabeth Gross of Lastrup; sons, Bob Gross of Lastrup, Mark (Roberta) Gross of Lastrup, Stephen Gross of Lastrup, David (Jenny) Gross of Cottage Grove, and Michael (Sherry) Gross of Newport; daughters, Sue (Donald) Seelen of Pierz, Carol (Jim) Krousey of Little Falls and Linda (Duane) Claussen of Wanatah, IN; grandchildren, Sheila, Stacy, Jenny, Joe, Brian, Jason, Rebecca, Kyle, Matt, Melissa, Josh, Brandon, Ryan, Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Shawn, Austin, Dustin, Deanna, Aiah and Isaac; brother Lloyd (Laura) Gross of Sauk Rapids; sisters, Viola Meyer of Portland, OR; and Rosemary Welinski of Swanville..

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Cara; parents, Steve and Anna Gross; brothers, Cliff and Roman and sister Irene.

Casketbearers were Jason Gross, Matt Krousey, Joe Seelen, Ryan Gross, Kyle Gross and Josh Claussen.
