Rev John A. Logan started the first Baptist Church in Iowa in 1834.
John Logan was born to Samuel and Ann Wylie Logan. John's father Samuel, was a native of Ireland, who came to this country when he was about 20 years old. Shortly after his parents moved to Garrard Co.Kentucky, where John grew. They made the trip on two pack horses, hardly enough to carry things by today standards.
On November 28,1816, he was married to Miss Nancy Newell,in Simpson Co. Kentucky, and move immediately to Summer Co. Tennessee, teaching of Elder Lee Allen, who converted him to Christ, and where he and his wife are buried in baptism on October 3, 1819. On the first Sunday in November , that same year ,they joined the New Hope Baptist Church,also in Simpson County. In October 1823, he moved to Dubois Co. Indiana, where they lived for four years.
He was ordained by Elders Graham,Charles Draper and David Hornaday. and in the spring in the year 1828 moved to McDonough Co.and settled near the town industry, living in an old block house. He was the first minister to preach in McDonough County.
They lived there till fall, when they moved into a more comfortable quarters,remaining there until the following year, when another move was to be made to Schuyler Co., where they made there home until the fall of 1835, when they returned to McDonough County, settling near Blandinsville. They lived there until Mr. Logan's death. The couple had thirteen children.
