JAMES W. BURKS DROPS DEAD.

The usual good times accompanying harvest days were marred Monday afternoon, when James W. Burks dropped dead at the home of his son near McVille, west of this city, while watching the wheat threshing. Mr. Burks had been in usual good health and yesterday morning went to his son's farm, one mile from his home, where the threshing was to be done. He had helped some with the work in the morning and after eating a hearty dinner, was sitting in the shade looking on, when he suddenly raised to his feet and fell over dead. Death was caused by apoplexy.

Mr. Burks was a resident of Greeen [sic] county all his life and well known over the county. He was 70 years of age and served in the civil war. He is survived by wife and seven children-Charles and Ozzie, of McVille; John of this city; Allie of Worthington; Edward, who lived with his father, Mrs. Albert Freeman of Freeman, and Mrs. Ed Ranard of Bloomfield.

The funeral was from the home today at 1 o'clock and from there the remains will be taken to Richland church, west of here, where short services will be held. Interment will be at the Richland cemetery.
