John Thomas Carmichael was born October 1, 1844 in Monroe County, Tennessee and passed away at his late home ten miles northwest of Cameron, Wednesday morning at 7 o'clock February 12, 1913 being 68 years, 4 months, and 11 days of age.

Mr. Carmichael spent his boyhood and young manhood days in the vicinity of his birth. He secured the advantages of the educational opportunities of his community. In 1869 he moved to DeKalb County, Missouri where he has lived up to the time of his death. He has pursued the vocation of farmer and had to subdue the wilds of nature, contributing his service in the building up of the community. He has held important positions in business relations with various intrests in the county.

Mr. Carmichael confessed his Savior and affiliated with the Christian Church in 1871 and lived a consistant life with his profession. His faith in God increased with the years and he was a regular attendant upon the services of the church. He sought both by word and deed to render every service for the furtherance of the Gospel.

He was a Free Mason and a member of the Vincil Lodge of Masons of Cameron and was a firm believer and exponent of its principles. A large number of the members of the Lodge attended the services in a body and escorted it to its last resting place.

Mr. Carmichael was above all a loving husband and a devoted father. His departure is an irreparable loss in the home as in the community. He enjoyed the acquaintance of a large circle of neighbors and friends many of whom bore testimony of unstinted praise to the superior excellence of his character and his clean life. Having come to DeKalb County in the days when the country was in its making, he contributed his unselfish services to its development. He had great faith in his fellowman and thru the confidence inspired by his life, he wielded a wholesome influence upon the moral and spiritual influence of his community.

He was taken ill last Thursday a week ago with LaGrippe; and unexpectedly passed away after the brief illness.

The funeral services were conducted from the late home Thursday morning, Rev. R. H. Heicke, pastor of the Christian Church of Cameron, officiating. Internment was made in Wamsley cemetery under the auspices of the Masonic Order. Amoung the brothers and sisters present at the services were: J. J. Carmichael, B. T. Carmichael and Mrs. Anna Metzger, all of Amity.
