James E. Dray, 74, died at 10:10 p.m. March 19, 2014, at St. Rita's Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 12, 1939, in Delphos to Charles Elmer and Mary Rupert Dray, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 9, 1958, he married Freeda Faye Workman, who died June 20, 2005.

Mr. Dray had been a law officer in Delphos in 1968, as a juvenile officer. He had also served on the Van Wert County Sheriff's Department, as chief of police in Ohio City and back to Van Wert County, where he retired. He had also worked at Scot Lad Foods. He was an Army veteran stationed in Korea from 1958 to 1961. He was a member of Hope Lodge 214 and the Walnut Grove Cemetery Board. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lillian, Rosemary and Charlotte; and four brothers, Harold, Gene, David and Walter Dray.

Services will begin at noon Monday at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos. The Rev. David Howell will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Delphos, with military rites by the Delphos Veterans Council.
