Ruth Nelson, 93, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 12:22 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2008, in the Sanctuary of Holy Cross, South Bend. She was born on October 25, 1914, in Hebron, IN, to Thomas K. and Margaret (Fyfe) Fisher.

On June 17, 1939, in Crown Point, IN, she married James H. Nelson, who preceded her in death on August 12, 2005.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by two sons, William J. (Marcia) Nelson of Algonquin, IL, and John H. (Brenda) Nelson of Indianapolis, IN; five grandchildren, John David (Colette) Nelson, Anne Marie (David) Dennison, Aaron Henry Nelson, Kara Dean (Jason) DeArman and Thomas Kilpatrick Nelson; five great-grandchildren, Jack David Nelson, Alison Rose Nelson, William David Nelson, Olivia Anne Dennison and Avery Dean DeArman.

Six sisters, Mary Gibbs, Emily Evans, Margaret McCarty, Letitia Clark, Catherine Alyea and her twin, Charlotte Fisher, and two brothers, George and Martin Fisher, all preceded her in death.

Mrs. Nelson moved to South Bend in 1948, coming from Gary, IN. She retired in 1971 from the National Bank where she had worked for eight years. Mrs. Nelson had been a member of the Ridgedale Presbyterian Church since 1952 where she served as a deacon.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St, South Bend. Rev. Norbert Stubel will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.

Friends may visit with the family from 11am-1pm on Tuesday in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Ruth Nelson may be made to The Center for Hospice &
