A graveside service will be conducted by Arvin Funeral Home on Friday, August 29, 2003, at 1 p.m., at South Kern Cemetery District, Arvin for Keith Victor Nylander, age 89, who passed away on Wednesday, August 27, in Bakersfield. Pastor Dale Edwards of the Valley Baptist Church will officiate at the serivce and interment will follow. Also officiating will be the Caledonia #486 F & AM, Masonic Lodge and the Associated Veterans of Kern County will give military rites.

Mr. Nylander was born October 1, 1913, in Marshaltown, Iowa, to Olaf and Ethel Nylander. He served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1933 to 1938 receiving his honorable discharge as Seaman First Class from the USS West Virginia. He moved to California after his naval service. He and Pearl Christensen married on August 31, 1951.

Mr. Nylander was the President of the Bear Mountain Winery in Digiorgio, California, when he retired, but also served as Assistant General Manager of the West Coast Production Division of Schenley Industry in Fresno; Plant Supervisor of Sanger Wine Association of California in Sanger; and Plant Manager of Peralta Wine Comp of Fresno. He served as the Vice President of the Wine Institute, was a member of the Wine Advisory Board, original member of the Brandy Board, Past President of the Arvin Chamber of Commerce, serving in 1963; member of the Lions Club; and a member of the Fresno Masonic Lodge F÷ earning his 50-year pin in 1999. He was the recipient of the Kern County Board of Trade Merit Award; received the Outstanding Community Service Appreciation Plaque from Arvin/Lamont Chamber of Commerce and he was appointed to the Kern County Fair Board by then Governor Ronald Reagan in 1972.

He is survived by his loving wife; Pearl and they would have celebrated 52 years of mariage on August 31. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Karl Keith Nylander in 1978. He is survived by his children, Sandra Withrow and husband, Jerry of Lake Havasu City, AZ; Keith Victor Nylander and wife, Jewell of Garland, Texas; Debra A. Owens and husband, Steve of Bakersfield; Linda K. Morrison and husband, Greg of Fresno; daughter-in-law, Teresa (Nylander) Barron; 7 grandsons, 4 granddaughters, and 4 great-grandchildren. The children of Keith would like to express their love and gratitude to Pearl for the love and care she has given their dad throughout the years.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the Rosewood Healthcare Center for the love and care they gave Keith during his stay there. Donations may be made in his name to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of South San Joaquin Valley, 83 E. Shaw, Fresno, CA.
