Deceased Name: Mr. William Adams , local jeweler known as 'Diamond Bill'

Mr. William G. Adams of Atlanta, president of the Peachtree Diamond Center, died Tuesday at his home. He was 71.

The memorial service will be at Patterson's Oglethorpe Hill Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Friday. The body will be cremated.

Mr. Adams, known to many in metro Atlanta as "Diamond Bill," was in the jewelry business in Atlanta for 44 years. He worked 28 years for Citizens Jewelry Co., rising to vice president. Peachtree Diamond Center was established in 1977.

His voice became familiar to radio listeners in Atlanta in the late 1970s and 1980s as the spokesman for Peachtree Diamond Center's commercials.

William George Adams was born March 29, 1919, in Monroe, the son of John Q. Adams and Pansy Garrett Adams.

He served in the Navy in World War II.

His wife said he had been a jeweler to three Georgia governors during his 44-year career.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters; a brother; two sisters; and five grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested that contributions be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home in Atlanta.
