Retired D.C. Sanitation Supervisor
George Edward Hess, 74, a former supervisor in the D.C. Department of Sanitary Engineering died Tuesday at Leland Memorial Hospital.
Born in Prince George's County, he was a lifelong resident of this area. He lived at 6700 Belcrest Road, Hyattsville.
Mr. Hess retied in 1964 from the Sanitary Engineering Department where he had held a supervisory position. He had served there for 41 years, except for a brief period in the 1940s when he worked in the Stationery Office at the Capitol.
He received several awards from the District government, including the Certificate of Merit, for his work in connection with major snow storms here.
Mr. Hess belonged to the Association of Retired Persons and St. Mark's Catholic Parish in Hyattsville.
He is survived by a brother, John Hess, of Barboursville, Virginia.
