Malinda "Mattie" Thompson, 91, Michigan City, died at 2:35 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 16, 1999) at Life Care Center of Michigan City.
The funeral is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Carlisle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Greg Enstrom officiating. Burial is in Furnessville Cemetery, Chesterton. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Thompson was born Nov. 30, 1907, in Firefly Farm, Trail Creek, to Wilbur and Blanche McMillen Crawford. On July 15, 1932, in Porter, she married John Thompson. He died May 11, 1999.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda (Jack) Middleton, Carson City, Nev.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harvey (Ruth) Crawford, Jasper (Gloria) Crawford, and Delbert (Beverly) Crawford, all of LaPorte; and five sisters, Blanche Crawford, Audrey Cook, Florence (Vic) Pagel and Dorothy Woodruff, all of Michigan City, and Rose (Oliver) Sievert, Chesterton. A great-granddaughter, six brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker. She won an award for reading the most books from the LaPorte County Library at the age of 90 and dedicated her life to caring for an invalid son for 35 years.
