Asahel descends from Resolved White who came to America on the "Mayflower" in 1620.

He was the son of Elisha and Mary (Loring) Wheeler.

He was a Lieutenant at the Battle of Concord on 19 April 1775, leading men from Sudbury under the command of Captain John Nixon.
He was a Captain at the Battle at Breed's Hill (Bunker Hill) as a member of Col. Ephraim Doolittle's Regiment.
Asahel was a Captain in Col. John Robinson's Regiment during the Ticonderoga Campaign in 1776 and was present at the surrender of British General Burgoyne at Saratoga.
