DeMARIS, Paul George, 80, of Colonial Heights, died Thursday, August 28, 2008. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Christine DeMaris; and a stepdaughter, Jeanette McMullan Popovich. Mr. DeMaris was a member of Highland United Methodist Church, the VFW Petersburg Post 622, where he held numerous offices. He was named the Virginia VFW Man of the Year in 1999 for services above and beyond at the local, state and national levels. Survivors include five grandchildren, A. Kimberly Iafolla, M.D. of Maryland, Karen S. Popovich, M.D. of North Carolina, M. Kristine Cravener of North Carolina, Corey DeMaris of Missouri, Matthew DeMaris of Ohio; son, David P. DeMaris of Ohio; nine great-grandchildren, Caitlin Iafolla and Michael Iafolla, both of Maryland, Caroline Latta, Jordan Latta and Cameron Latta, all of North Carolina, Kelly Cravener and Richard Cravener III, both of North Carolina, Ari DeMaris of Ohio and Kelsey DeMaris of Missouri. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with the Rev. Bill Rawlings officiating. Interment 1 p.m.Tuesday at Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Please omit flowers.
