After the birth of their son Elmer, Nicholas and Mary Ann moved to Pocasset, Grady, Oklahoma where Nicholas farmed. After the birth of 4 more children Mary Ann grew very homesick and they moved back to Louisville, Nebraska to be near family where they farmed until Nicholas retired and they moved to town into the house that Mary Ann's parents and grandparents had lived in on South Main Street when they retired from farming.
