Co. E, 149th Illinois Infantry

William was a married man with a young child at home when he entered the U.S. Army during the Civil War. He served in 149th Illinois Infantry, Company E. After the war, he had two more children with his wife, Emma GREEN. Emma died in 1869, soon after the birth of a son. A year later, William married for a second time to Elizabeth Ann OLIVER, a divorcee who had a little boy when they married. With his second wife, he had two children who survived to maturity. He supported his family owning his own butcher shop.
