Specialist Steven J. Fitzmorris, 26, of Columbia, Missouri. An E-4 in the United States Army, Steven served with the 3rd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Carson, Colorado. His unit deployed for Iraq between Christmas and New Year's 2008 for an 18-month mission. Steven was hit by sniper fire and died from his injuries 24 hours later. He is survived by his wife Samantha Jo (Baker) Fitzmorris of Columbia; children, Joshua Michael and Mykenzee Leigh of Columbia; mother, Rosemarie Currier and husband Michael of Salem, Alabama; siblings, Kayla Fitzmorris of Louisiana State and Justin Condroski of Ft. Carson, Colorado; mother and father-in-law, Christina and Jonathan Wallace of Harrisburg, Missouri; father-in-law, John Baker of Columbia; and grandparents, Francis and Louise Fitzmorris of Arab, Alabama. Steve's funeral was held on September 2, 2008, and he was buried with full military honors.
