Martha Nellie Walker, 97, of Battle Creek, died Friday, January 9, 2004, in her home. She was born on November 29, 1906, in Juhl, Michigan, the daughter of Peter Sonicksen and Caroline (Christensen) Sonicksen. Martha had worked at Alsteel-Battle Creek as a machine operator for seventeen years. She married Reginald Walker in April 1927. Martha is survived by her loving family, a daughter, Wauneta (Harvey) High, of Hudson; six granddaughters, Sharon (Chris) Robb, Janet High, Patricia (Stephen) Stutesman, Darbie (Russell) Hjort, Jolinda Walker and Dustin (Alan) Cruvdans; a grandson, Bryan (Lynnette) High; a sister, Emma McPeake, of Iron Mountain; a daughter-in-law, Leslie Walker; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald Walker, in May 1958, her parents, a son, Robert Walker, a great-grandson, Benjamin Robb, five sisters and three brothers. Martha enjoyed traveling, gardening, bowling and Casino's, visiting with her friends and special outings with her nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, where the family will be present Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m., and where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery, Bedford Township.
