Wesley Skipper died at his home near here on Saturday at 9:45 A.M. He had been in poor health for many weeks but for all that he never failed to be at his post of duty as long as he could go. The community has lost one of its oldest and most honored citizens. He was a consecrated Christian and a member of Bethel Free Will Baptist church at Leland. His wife, Mrs. Lydia Skipper, preceded him to the grave seven weeks and two days. He leaves their loss five children: Messrs. C R, W I., J D Skipper and Mrs. A W Benton, Jr., all of Lelsnd, and J W Skipper of Atkinson, and a brother, W.M. Skipper, of Delgado. He was 68 years old, served in the Confederate army, was a member of the pension board in Brunswick county, The remains were tenderly laid to rest Sunday at 1:30 p.m. In the Nelson graveyard in the presence of about 150 relatives and friends. The funeral was preached by Rev. C.W. Havell, assisted by Revs. J P White and M H Hilburn. The family has the tenderest sympathy of the community.
