My GGGG-Grandfather, William "Wilhelm" Dilts was born in 1754 in Germany.
William and 3 of his brothers (Peder, Jacob and George) came from Germany to America about 1780. One settled in New Jersey, near Hopewell or Trenton. One went to Ohio and William and the other to Hagerstown, Maryland. William later moved to Bedford County in Pennsylvania, and still later to Indiana County, Pa. Where he married a widow of Scotish origin named Nancy Watson Keen(Kane) about 1783 in Indiana County, Pa. They had 1 child: the Hon.Peter Dilts (1785-1856) and 9 grandchildren from Peter's 2 marriages.

William and Nancy lived on a farm where he spent the remainder of his life in the agricultural pursuits, near Georgeville,in North Mahoning Township,Indiana County, Pa. earning the respect of his community.

The first grist mill in North Mahoning Township, Indiana County, Pa. was created about 1809 by William Dilts and was the second mill built North of the Purchase Line.

William died about 1823 and Nancy 4 years later in 1827. They are laid to rest together in Gilgal United Presbyterian Church Cemetery, East Mahoning Township, Indiana County, Pa.
