Roman Catholic Cardinal. He was born around 1447 at Venice as the son of Lorenzo Michiel and Nicolosa Barbo, a sister of Pope Paul II. He was created cardinal deacon in 1468 together with his cousin Giovanni Battista Zeno. He participated in the conclave of 1471 that elected Francesco della Rovere as Sixtus IV. He accompanied the pope to Viterbo and Foligno when he fled Rome because of the plague, but they returned in the same year. He also participated in the conclaves of 1484 and 1492 that elected Innocent III and Alexander VI and was named titular Latin patriarch of Antioch in 1497. He became ill and died after vomiting for two days. A year after his death Pope Julius II was in search of evidence against Cesare Borgia and had the cardinals cook arrested and tortured. He admitted to poisoning the cardinal by orders of Cesare and was executed.
