Jessica Ruth Centennial Savage Fox, nee Pettit, was lifted by angels to be with her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, in Floresville, Texas.

She was attended by her son, Carl Centennial, at the time of her passing. Another son, Mark Centennial, and Carl's wife, Yolanda, were also by her side as Jessica awaited God's call. At the time of her passing, her arms were lifted by angels to embrace her lifelong spiritual companion and savior, Jesus Christ.

Through her last days, while she grew weaker and nearer death's door, Jessica never complained or cried out, and even attempted to comfort those attending her. She was a rock of faith in God and her belief that Heaven is a warmer, gentler place for all her family and friends.

While Jessica's body may have suffered congestive heart failure and the effects of time and circumstance, her spirit never waned. Her beautiful smile lit many faces and her compassion for others was an example to all who knew her.

During her final 10 years, Jessica lived with her son, Mark, in Dwight, Ill. She relocated to Floresville in January 2002.

The daughter of Joseph Newton Pettit and Dora Edna Farrell, Jessica was born Aug. 10, 1914.

Several of her children preceded her in death. These include Barbara Ellen (Savage) Smurlo, Anthony Smurlo, and Arthur Clarence Savage. Also preceding her were her siblings, Thelma and Mildred Pettit, and William, Fred, and Clarence Pettit.

Jessica is survived by her children, William Wirth Savage, Thomas Herbert Savage, Geraldine Ann Couvillion, Carmen "Carl" Robert Centennial and wife Yolanda Tello Centennial of San Antonio, Mark Allen Centennial of San Antonio, and David Paul Centennial and wife Marilyn of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
