He volunteered for WWII serving in the US Coast Guard, stationed first on Terminal Island, Long Beach, CA and was married during that time to Roma E. Swinehart, our Mother.
He learned the craft of welding while stationed in Hawaii and later that little bit of knowledge led him to own a body & fender shop in Adair, IA. He gained a real talent for that trade and it remained his life vocation until his death in 1983.
He lived most of his married life in Southern CA, moving his family from Diamond Bar, CA in 1968 to Eugene, OR.
He loved reading his Bible daily and attended faithfully a Baptist church in Eugene area all of his time there.
He is remembered for his hard work & his love of family. In later life he especially enjoyed his grandchildren whom he taught to play golf or spent time playing board games with.
He at one time was a Golden Gloves Boxer and always had that kind of 'gusto' for life, whether playing cards or arguing a Bible verse meaning.
