It has pleased the Lord in His infinite wisdom to call from our midst Mrs. Emily Charlotta Swenson at the age of 72 years, 3 months, and 27 days.

Mrs. Swenson was born in Smaland, Sweden on Sept 10, 1871 and baptized there in the Lutheran faith. She came to America in 1883 and was confirmed here in Chisago city in the Lutheran Church on May 29, 1887. She was married to Carl Emil Swenson on October 11, 1896 and to this union were born 10 children. On daughter Bertha, preceded Mrs. Swenson in death on Sept 5, 1939.

Mrs. Swenson was a praying and faithful wife and mother. She will be greatly missed in the home where she has been a great blessing to many souls all these years. All who have known her speak well of her Christian principles of life. She worked hard all of her life in her home, in the church, and in the community in that spirit which spoke of her deep trust in the Lord and for whom her service was given. She was an honorary life member of the Women's Missionary Society and was deeply interested in Mission work both at home and abroad. The picture of her in her own home with the children gathered around her in prayer in their childhood days will not be easily forgotten. The prayer of a faithful praying mother for her children's salvation should bear much fruit for the kingdom of God. Responsibilities and blessing always rest upon the children. These last weeks Mrs. Swenson spoke of being tired but still, she enjoyed doing what she could for her loved ones. She was taken to the Swedish Hospital on Christmas Day when she later suffered from an apoplectic stroke which together with complications brought about her death. She never recovered from her stroke and passed on to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan 7, 1944 to rest from her labors. She has done what she could.

The departed wife and mother leaves to mourn her departure; her beloved husband, the children, Mildred, teaching at Racine, WI; Gertrude (Mrs. C. W. Hedenstrom) of St. Paul, Henry and Gilbert at home on the farm; Walter of Milwaukee, WI, Myrtle (Mrs. Howard Hertle) of Minneapolis; Dr, Philip Arling in the Navy; Dr. Leonard Arling of Minneapolis and Major Raymond Swenson in the Air Corps, 6 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Gustaf Carlson of Forest Lake, MN and Albin Carlson of Minneapolis; 2 sisters, Miss Hilda Carlson of Minneapolis and Mrs. August Hawkinson of Chisago City and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church, Chisago City, MN on Sunday, January 9 at 2:30 pm with Pastor E. H. Baker officiating. Messages in song were given by Mrs. Arthur W. Peterson and Mrs. Stanley Oberg and Miss Harriet Oberg. Pallbearers were 6 sons, Henry, Gilbert, Walter, Philip, Leonard, and Raymond carrying their mother to her last resting place. Interment was made at the West Green Lake Cemetery. Peace be to the memory of Mrs. Swenson and God's comfort to the sorrowing and bereaved ones.
