Ardis L. Thomas, age 94, of Rice Lake, WI, died Saturday, August 9, 2008 after a brief illness at the Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.

Ardis was born on September 24, 1913 in Medford, WI to Henry and Marith (Romundstad) Haanstad. She graduated from the Rice Lake High School in 1932. Ardis was married to Alexander Campbell on January 21, 1939 in Rice Lake. They moved to Waterloo, IA in 1943 and he later preceded her in death in 1951. Ardis later moved back to Rice Lake and married Ellwood Thomas on May 19, 1962 in Rice Lake. She worked for the Board of Education in Rice Lake as a Secretary for 23 years.

Ardis was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Rice Lake, PEO Chapter Z and the Church Women's Group.

Ardis is survived by her husband, Ellwood Thomas of Rice Lake, WI; 2 daughters, Catherine Sharkey of Woodbury, MN and Jill Thomas of New Richmond, WI; a son, Jack (Diane) Thomas of River Falls, WI; a daughter-in-law, Sally Campbell; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack & Peg Thomas; a niece, Kate Carney and nephews, Scott and Mark Thomas. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alexander Campbell; a son, Don Campbell in 2001; a grandson, Corey Campbell; a great-grandson, Noah Campbell; her parents, Henry and Marith Haanstad; a sister Margot Carney and a brother, Phillip Haanstad.

Memorial Services were held at 12 noon Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at the United Presbyterian Church in Rice Lake, Rev. David Butler officiating, with interment in the Nora Cemetery in Rice Lake, WI. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI.
