A BIOGRAPHY OF EMILY MANDEVILLE REED CHILD, by Laurence Overmire (great great nephew), genealogist and family historian, Aug. 2008:
Emily Mandeville Reed was born in Hartford, Oxford County, Maine, on Nov. 8, 1823, the eldest daughter and third of eight children of Sampson and Huldah (Bisbee) Reed.
On May 20, 1844, at the age of 21, she married 27-year-old Lewis Washburn Child, son of Capt. Joseph Child and Olive Woodsum. Emily gave birth to ten children.
Lewis was a farmer. In 1860, the family was living in Paris, Oxford County, Maine. In 1880, they were in Milton, Oxford County. At some point after that, they moved to Glencoe, Minnesota.
Emily died in Glencoe on Sept. 27, 1920 at the age of 96. She was laid to rest in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Glencoe.
