Dorothy A. Amergian, 85 SOUTH PORTLAND -- Dorothy A. Amergian, 85, died unexpectedly Aug. 24, 2008, at her residence. Dorothy suffered for over 30 years with Rhuematoid Arthritis. She was born in Lawrence, Mass., the daughter of Hovan and Serpoohi (Sohigian) Hovnanian and was educated in Lawrence schools graduating from Lawrence High School and attended McIntosh Business College in Lawrence. Mrs. Amergian was employed at Western Electric in the engineering department in Haverhill, Mass. She then moved to the Portland area. On Jan. 2, 1949, she married Raymond 'Solly' Amergian and together they owned and operated the Busy Beaver Market Stores in the Portland area. She later worked as a teacher assistant in the Portland school system. They would tell you that the most special day of her life was when she married her loving husband, Solly Amergian, they were so close and shared so much over the years, highlighted by their 50th anniversary party. This January would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary. Some of their fondest memories would include the many Armenian Dance events that Solly put together. heir favorite moment at each dance was when the two of them would sole dance to the Zumzada. The one thing that kept Dot fighting off her illnesses over the many years was her deep love for not only her husband but for her three children, grandchildren and great- grandchild. Dot truly had a heart of gold never complained and always put her family and others first. She will be sadly missed and has touched our hearts forever. Dorothy lived the life she always dreamed of filled with the love and joys of her close family. Her incredible love and strength was felt by all who knew her. Dot always put everyone else before her, with her unselfish caring ways, she would look after and make sure everyone was taken care of. What she treasured most were the many times spent with her family from taking family trips to Puerto Rico, California, Las Vegas, or just a dinner and a local play, Dot enjoyed it all despite her debilitating illness. She would always look forward to the frequent family get togethers at the lake. She also enjoyed cooking Armenian dishes, desserts and sharing them with family and friends. She especially loved teaching her daughters these treasured recipes. Dorothy was a communicant of the Anglican Cathedral of St. Paul in Portland. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Raymond 'Solly' Amergian of Portland; two daughters, Sheila Carver and husband Linwood of Winslow, Denise Ludka and husband Bruce of Windham, one son, Raymond R.
