Sanford, who resided at R.F.D. 1, Felton, Delaware, served as a Private First Class with Company C, 145th Infantry Regiment, 37th (Buckeye) Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He was "Killed In Action" at Mt. Pacawagan, Luzon, Philippines.

He had served in the Army for one year and eleven months at the time of his death and was decorated with the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Son of John W. Godwin and Louanna Hickman Godwin.
