Funeral services will be Thursday, for Robert "Bob" Kachel, 82, Sioux Falls, formerly of Madison, who died Aug. 21, 2008 at Sanford Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls. Rev. Robert Vinslauski will officiate services at Weiland Funeral Chapel, and burial with military honors will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery.
Kachel was born on Nov. 13, 1925 at Madison to Arthur and Katherine (Dewanz) Kachel. He married Beverly Rubin at Madison on Oct. 12, 1947. She preceded him in death in 1982. He married Carolyn Mitchell at Bella Vista, Ark. on Oct. 14, 1989.
He grew up in Madison graduating from Madison High School in 1944. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He worked as a printer at the Madison Daily Leader from 1946 to 1977 when he moved to Sioux Falls. He continued to work as printer for Brown and Saenger until he retired in 1989.
He was a member of Madison VFW Post 2638.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of Sioux Falls; one son, Richard of Madison, Tenn.; one daughter, Pamela Kachel of Costa Mesa, Calif.; two grandchildren; one step-son, William Mitchell of Orim, Utah.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Cletus; and one sister, Marion Hills; and one stepson, Craig Mitchell.
