Melvin J. Goodrich, 69, died Dec. 19, 1997, at a friend's home in Palmer. A visitation was held followed by a funeral at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Palmer Ward. Burial was at Palmer Pioneer Cemetery.
Mr. Goodrich was born Jan. 27, 1928, in Lewiston, Utah, and was educated at Springville. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and in the Coast Guard during the Korean War. He was stationed in Alaska while in the Navy, and moved here in 1967. He was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. ''Melvin drove to Alaska in 1967 to be a bush pilot,'' said his family. ''He flew as a bush pilot for years all over Alaska. He enjoyed playing softball and volleyball, and played on the Alaska Golden Buzzards Softball Team. He was a champion Ping-Pong player, enjoyed fishing and flying, and loved to cook. After health problems grounded him, he bought a boat and fished the ocean. He was dedicated to his faith and serving the Lord. He was a highly talented welder and fabricator throughout his life. He served as maintenance person for Valley Hospital for 17 years. He helped everyone.''
Mr. Goodrich is survived by his brothers, Ralph L., John A. and Arlen; sister, Joan Richmond; and dogs, Lassie and Gypsy. Arrangements were by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
