She taught school in her hometown of Myersville and in Wolfsville for several years. She then moved to Philadelphia PA for five years and worked as a milliner for Gimbels and for Strawbridge & Clothier.
She married Jesse K Sherwood in December 1911 who was a longtime employee of the Wonder Bread bakery. He died in March 1968. They had two children, Helen S Benham of Bethesda MD and Ralph D Sherwood of Silver Spring MD. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Susan and Janet Sherwood.
