ELMIRA - A memorial service will be held July 3 for Ruby Violet Bourgeis of Elmira, who died June 30 of age-related causes. She was 86.

Bourgeis was born March 8, 1916, in Goshen to Charles and Nellie Toll Winter. She married Gordon Bourgeis in Long Beach, Wash., on Aug. 1, 1959. He died Feb. 10, 1996.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed knitting, gardening, hunting and fishing. Bourgeis was a member of Elmira Church of Christ. A lifelong resident of the area, she lived along the McKenzie River, in the Noti area and at Star Camp, before settling in Elmira.

Survivors include three sons, Norman Thurman of Spokane, Carl Thurman of Whitewater, Colo., and Dale Thurman of Elmira; two daughters, Kay Elmes of Elmira and Linda Prather of Quartz Hill, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Judy Rush of San Jose, Calif., Karen Miller of Portland and Carol Schwartz of California; a sister, Vina DeBroekert of Eugene; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene. Wednesday's service will be at noon at Elmira Church of Christ. A graveside service will follow at Lane Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fern Ridge U.S. Veterans of Foreign Wars.
