Donald E. Yusten, age 86, of Sun City, Ariz., died Tuesday (August 19, 2008) at Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City.
He was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Martinsburg, Neb., to William B. Yusten and Elsie May (Heidy). He grew up in Dixon County, Neb. He was a 1939 graduate of Allen, Neb., High School, a graduate of Boyles Business College, Omaha, took a 3-year agriculture course in Colorado Springs, CO and was a graduate of Ambassador Motel Management. He served as a sergeant in the MPs during World War II. He served as a Road Overseer of Silver Creek Township Board of Dixon County from 1943-1948. He married Theresa May Guillaume July 21, 1951, in Sioux City, Iowa. She died July 13, 2007. He moved to Meckling in 1960 and was engaged in dairy and general farming. He retired to Vermillion, then to Sun City, AZ in 1999. He was a life member of the VFW, Eagles K of C, and Lions. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.
Survivors include daughters Juliana Rose of Sedona, AZ, Janette Queen and Kathleen Dunlap, both of Sioux City, IA; sons: Donald Yusten Jr. of Sioux City, IA; David Yusten of Watertown, SD; Vincent Yusten of Sioux Falls; sisters Norma Gavin and Stella Navrkal, both of Sioux City; brother Robert B. Yusten of Dakota City, Neb.; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Theresa, son Daniel Yusten, three sisters: Mary, Elaine and Enid.
Services are at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Aug, 22, 2008 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Vermillion, SD. Fr. John Fischer is officiating. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Vermillion, with military graveside services conducted by Vermillion Clay Co. Post No. 3061.
Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug, 21, 2008 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Vermillion. There is a 7:00 p.m. wake service at the church. A rosary will occur after the wake service Thursday.
Iverson-Siecke-Kober Funeral Home, Vermillion, is in charge of arrangements.
