Mrs. Alean Carter Atkinson, 59, of 2060 Jefferson Street, Wilmington, NC, died Sunday evening at Toumy Hospital, Sumter, S.C. after a brief illness.
Mrs. Atkinson was born in Duplin County on November 18, 1925, the daughter of Mrs. Annie Beasley Carter of Wilmington, NC, and the late Frank C. Carter. She was a member of the Lake Forest Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Otis J. Atkinson, Sr., of the home; four sons, O. J. Atkinson, Jr., of Wilmington, NC, Gene D. Atkinson of Castle Hayne, NC, Earl C. Atkinson of Sumter, SC, and A. Ray Atkinson of Wilmington, NC; four brothers, J.C. Carter of Kinston, NC, Ernest Carter of Greensboro, NC, Graham Carter of Camden, SC, and Walter Carter of Wilmington, NC; five sisters, Norien Freeman and Margaret Ann Williams, both of Wilmington, nC, Mandy Jane Ellis of Clayton, NC, Sally Bailey of Durham, NC, and Alice Dean Mathis of Magnolia, NC, and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Lake Forest Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph Holt officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Casketbearers will be Mrs. Atkinson's nephews, Joe Atkinson, Jeff Williams, Dennis Carter, Isaac Puzon, Morris Highfield and Kent Williams.
Honorary bearers will be the Deacons of the Lake Forest Baptist Church.
