Margaret Evangeline Hawkins was born November 7, 1921 in Lucas County, Iowa the daughter of Edd Cox and Blanche (Hart) Cox.
She was raised in Wayne County and graduated with the Allerton High School Class of 1940. On September 15, 1941 she was united in marriage to Morgan Lloyd Hawkins in Princeton, Missouri. Margaret lived in California while Morgan served during WWII. She worked at Colonial Dames Cosmetics during this time. She later returned to Iowa while Morgan was overseas. The couple lived in Wayne County before moving to Knoxville in 1956. Margaret worked for Speed's Drugstore, JC Penny and the Royal Pastry Shop prior to retirement.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Margaret passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the Pleasant Care Living Center, in Pleasantville, at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 5 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Morgan; granddaughter, Miranda Hawkins; son-in-law, David McKee; brother, Virgil Cox and three sisters, Wilma Hook, Lorena Rosenbaugh and Lois Loney.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Carol McKee of Creston, and Elaine Johnson and Shirley (Gordon) Swayne both of Knoxville and, Marvin (Marla) Hawkins of Knoxville; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and 3 sisters, Beulah Huntley of San Diego, CA, Lucille Hardin of Mountain Grove, MO and Leanna Greer of Cincinnati, IA and many other family members and friends.
