She was born September 12, 1910 in Iron Gate, Virginia a daughter of the late Lloyd William Showalter, Sr. and Zephya Fisher Showalter.
Mrs. Adkins was a retired School Teacher with thirty nine years of service, having taught in the Alleghany County and Clifton Forge City School System. She was a member and past Sunday School Teacher at the Iron Gate United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sisters, Marion Ruth Morrell of Pittsburgh, PA and Fern Cook of Abingdon, Virginia; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Newton Wesley Adkins in 1994; one sister, Harriet Faye Showalter; and four brothers, James E. Showalter, L.W. "Bush" Showalter, Eric Homer Showalter and Ray Dean "Preach" Showalter.
