Obituary:

Sofia Telles Apodaca, 73, a resident of Truth or Consequences, passed away Monday at Fort Bayard Medical Center. She was born Dec. 5, 1921, to Jose and Teresita (Vallegas) Telles in Las Palomas, N.M. She married Andres S. Apodaca on March 14, 1949, in Las Cruces and then moved to Hot Springs. From 1955 until 1976, Mr. Apodaca worked for the Kennecott Copper Corp. while Mrs. Apodaca enjoyed life as a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an active member of the Santa Clara Roman Catholic Church and was known by church parishioners for donating her time and for her wonderful baking. In 1976, the Apodacas moved to Turth or Consequences, where Mrs. Apodaca enjoyed being spoiled by family members. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a generous, loving person who was always ready to lend a helping hand to family members and friends. She is survived by three sons, Nate Apodaca and his wife, Melva, of Las Vegas, Nev., Andy T. Apodaca and his wife, Lisa, of Truth or Consequences, and Joe F. Apodaca and his wife, Virginia, of Central; a brother, Frank Lucero of Deming; a nephew, Alfredo Ordonez, and his wife, Margaret, of Las Cruces; 12 grandchildren; and 14 greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andres S. Apodaca, on Jan 10, 1995; her parents; and a sister, Lola Ordonez. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. with Deacon Johnny Perez reciting the rosary. The funeral liturgy will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Michael Lindsay celebrating the Mass. The rite of committal will follow in the Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ruben Apodaca, Joe Apodaca Jr., Bobby Apodaca, Isaac Apodaca, Alex Apodaca, and her godson, Steve Lucero. Family members selected Curtis-Bright Funeral Home to serve them.
