Thelma H. Graves, 84, joined her husband, William, in heaven Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007.
Cryptside service: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Mausoleum. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral home.
Thelma was born Jan. 16, 1923, and attended Central High School in Fort Worth. She met and married William Graves in 1941 and said goodbye to him as he shipped out to serve in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. While William was away, she and their new baby daughter, Kathryn, lived with Thelma's mom in Fort Worth.
On William's return, they moved to the east side of Fort Worth and worked hard to create a life that was rich with love for family and friends.
Thelma was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Thelma loved a beautiful yard and worked with pride to make it attractive. She endured family camping and fishing trips each summer to San Saba. She loved the company of family during the holidays.
She worked at Pangburns, Washer Brothers, Williamson-Dickie and retired from the GSA.
Most of all, Thelma loved her husband, William, her mother, Kathryn and their daughter, Kathy. When granddaughters, Cassie and Catharine, came along there was more than enough love to share. The joy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren would bring sparkle to her eyes and a smile to her face. Going out to eat and spending the night with "Granny" and "Granddad" were wonderful times.
Thelma was a longtime member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church and First Methodist Church of Fort Worth. She was deeply loved and will be missed.
Granny's legacy of kindness lives in all who knew her and will be passed on to her great-grandsons, Zachary, Jonathan and Stephen. Her warm smile, loving words and gentle ways touched many lives and left a legacy of love for a family to remember and to pass on to others in their lives.
She and William were indeed part of America's greatest generation.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Kathryn Willenborg; stepfather, Henry Willenborg; brother, Bernard; and sister, Rea and her husband, William Graves.
Survivors: Daughter, Kathryn Murphey and husband, John; granddaughters, Cassie Murphey Green and husband, Bill and Catharine Thomas and husband, Cory; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jonathan and Stephen; sister-in-law, Dicy Fagan; and caregivers, Birdie Hancock and Shawn Hughes.
