William Singleton was born at Co. Wexford, Ireland in 1804 to his father Jonathan Singleton and Mother Sarah Williams.

William's father Jonathan and his children emigrated to Ontario Canada in the early 1800's.

William was a local farmer and storekeeper after his emigration to Canada.

He built a Stone House, in Crosby, Ontario

The original townsite where another of his homes still stands today was named "Singleton Corners" after William, but changed to Crosby (after the train stop) about the same time as his son opened the General Store which was built in 1900, and also still stands today.

On December 30, 1832, William was married to Katherine (Coad) Singleton, at Kitley Township, Leeds County, Ontario. She was the daughter of George Coad and Mary Blackburn.

Inscription

The bottom of William Singleton's Tombstone Reads:
"Yet again we hope to meet Thee,
When the day of life is fled.
Then in Heaven with joy to greet Thee,
Where no farewell tear is shed."

This verse is from a Christian hymn named "Sister, Thou Wast Mild and Lovely" which can be found in church hymn books even today.
