Abram and Jane came to Nebraska from Fairfax, Linn County, Iowa the spring of 1884. Abram and children William, Jennie and Ella came first in a covered wagon. Nathan came by train bringing their household goods, farm tools and a couple horses. Jane and the rest of the family came by another covered wagon leaving Iowa on April 29, 1884. They crossed the Missouri River on a ferry boat and avoided towns because of the cattle they were herding.
The family settled on E2 of the SE4 of S11, T10, R16. Abram's brother, David, lived on the farm just across the road to the east.
William built the sod barn and chicken house while Nathan constructed the two story frame house. The younger children attended the Mount Pleasant School which was a mile north and 1/2 mile west of their home.
The winter of 1890, Jane was taken from her beloved family when she contracted LaGrippe, a viral infection of the respiratory tract similar to the Spanish flu during WWI.
