Darlen E. Dumont passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 after suffering a stroke and seizure on May 26th.

George W. Dumont, her loving husband of 49 years, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2008 following a massive stroke.

Darlen was born November 6, 1933 in Duluth, Minnesota, the daughter of Sarah (Maijala) and Edward Esko. She graduated from Vocational High School in Minneapolis, MN with a focus on a business/legal field of study. After working for a lawyer, she moved to Washington, D.C. in 1952 to pursue a 25 year career as an administrative director with the Central Intelligence Agency.

George was born May 30, 1922 in North Adams, Massachusetts, the son of Hazel (Granger) and Alfred Dumont. As a young man, he loved the Berkshire Mountains and played saxophone with the Charlie Trudeau Orchestra. From 1941-1945, George proudly served as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army Air Corps in Naples, Italy and North Africa. After World War II, he earned a BA degree in psychology from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. After college, George was recruited in the early years of the Central Intelligence Agency. He was an executive director of the CIA and was covert for most of his 20 years of service.

Darlen and George met in the CIA when she began her government service as his secretary. After a six year courtship, they were married on November 22, 1958. They lived in Alexandria and Arlington, Virginia before enjoying an early retirement in Florida. After a few years in Lighthouse Point, Florida, they bought a home at Kings Point in Sun City Center, FL. They enjoyed their church, volunteer work, and an active retirement lifestyle. Darlen was an historian and was also especially fond of shopping, fashion, and travel.

George was an avid reader and was greatly interested in current events and politics. His great passion was Big Band Music and he assembled an extensive collection of recorded music of that era.

Due to health problems, they relocated in July 2007 to an apartment at Summerville Assisted Living in Ocoee, FL, where they lived happily for nearly one year. After their respective strokes, they both received exceptional care and support from the staffs of Vitas Innovative Hospice Care and Lake Bennett Health and Rehabilitation in Ocoee, FL.

After sharing a very private life together, they shared their last room and died eight days apart. They will be greatly missed by Darlen's sisters, Lois Palm of Hopkins, MN; Carol Russell and her husband, Brent, of Windermere, FL; her aunt, Dora Marjala of Torrance, CA; nephew Jeff Palm and his wife, Renee, and nephew Greg Palm and his wife, Ginger, all of Hopkins, MN; nieces Emily Russell of Fort Myers, FL and Kirsten Russell of Windermere, FL.

They will also be greatly missed by George's sister, Priscilla Case, and his niece, Judy Gaye, both of Los Angeles, CA.
